Treatments performed with Acupuncture

... I have used my own judgement and common sense to rule out other conditions like infectious diseases/acute surgical and medical emergencies that were supposed to be treatable with Acupuncture. Such cases should be in the field of Modern Western Medicine, and patients with those conditions will be either treated here, if possible, with a prescription of western drugs or referred to the relevant Med/Surgical/Gynaecological Departments for treatment.

Cases like Appendicitis/perforation of a gastric/duodenal ulcer, whooping cough, common cold, tetanus, syphilis ,malaria ,bone fractures, varicose veins are not treatable with acupuncture, though ancient books on the subject says the contrary - modern common sense doesn’t.

Based on my 30+ years of practising Acupuncture and my 40+ years as a Medical doctor, the following are conditions that are commonly treated within my clinic.

  • Acute sprain of the lower back

  • Below I have listed conditions that though can be treated by Acupuncture require Medical follow-up and supervision or further investigation or monitoring.

    Bronchial asthma

Good results but need to be monitored by a medical professional

    Hypertension

Good either treatment with Acupuncture alone… Or in conjunction with western anti-hypertensive drugs that may have lost their initial potency

    Sciatica

One must know the CAUSE of the sciatica. Sciatica means pain along the sciatic nerve. Pain is NOT a disease. There are many causes of sciatica that need medical evaluation. X-Rays/MRI scans may be needed.

    Migraine

The cause of migraine must be ascertained. There are more than a dozen causes, some serious. Only a medically trained professional can decide.

Irritable bowel syndrome Crohn`s Disease and other intestinal issues

    Detailed medical investigations needed

    Buerger's Disease

This disease can result in a surgical intervention, arterial bypass or even amputation, if not treated and monitored well - Angiograms are needed as well as advice from a trained medical professional

    Chronic lower back pain

The cause of the pain must be investigated. There are certain serious conditions from the prostrate for men and the uterus for women that can be the cause of these pains. Investigations and a thorough medical history taken should be taken by a medical practitioner.

Diseases affecting soft tissues of the shoulder

Shoulder pain can be even caused by disease in the diaphragm/liver or lungs. A trained medical professionals opinion should be consulted first.

    Carpal tunnel syndrome

Treatment with acupuncture is possible, however a small surgical procedure may be sufficient.

    Calcaneum spur

Acupuncture treatment of choice as there are presently no surgical procedures

    Male and Female Infertility

Investigations into the existence into any underlying causes first prior to treatment. Current success rate within our surgery is over 70% success rate for those patients between the 20-30 years, for more information click here

    Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Gynaecological investigations should be carried out first

    Chronic Miscarriage of pregnancy

Investigation of the possible cause should be undertaken, if possible. Note that in general 30% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and there there may be no detectable cause.

The above are the common conditions encountered by me in my clinic. There are more exotic examples and surprises that do occasionally present themselves. I will not need to list them. As a Dr. I will use my own experience and judgement as to either decide if the case can be helped and if not, to refer them on.
